18 May 2014 - Though the upper Shepaug (Valley Rd. to Bee Br.) has been downgraded to cl 2 since I last ran it (1978), several closely-spaced rapids below Rt 202 kept our cl 4 OC-1 paddlers busy at 3.2 ft/~190 cfs (lowish). Thanks to local paddlers the wood had all been removed. After two more open cl 2s just below the Bantam confluence it is all cl 1. The Bantam River (Stoddard Rd. to Bee Br.) is a pretty cl 1 and 3.1 ft is ample, but we had to line five trees, all upstream of the small runnable dam just above the first Smokey Hollow Road bridge. What a great way to spend a gorgeous day! R. Markl
