Kennebago

The river is on gated private property owned by a very nice couple that runs the hydro dam below the lake. They schedule a annual dam release for the Penobscot Paddle and Chowder Society. They meet at the gate to let us in. The shuttle road is next to the river on river left. I ran on April 27 for the first time. It was 8 feet on the gauge that is below the dam on river right. This was the highest that most people in the group had been on it. It was around 6.5 to 7' the previous few years. *' was around 900 cfs, maybe 1,000. The first half was easy class I and IIs. The 2nd half was considerably harder. I would say class III+. No really bad holes or hazards but it would be long unpleasant place to swim.
