Billy Goat Bluff
Description
Billy Goat Bluff is a solid Class IV rapid that's pretty high quality. The rapid consists of two drops - a sticky ledge hole, followed by a tongue of water that drops right into a big boulder that appears capable of pinning and flipping boats. The ledge is best run boofing hard left. But the bottom drop is most easily run by coming out of a river-right bank eddy below the first ledge and driving with an upstream ferry across the face of the drop and just missing the boulder. Linking both lines is a real feat. Scouting and portaging are best on the right. It's also possible to skip the sticky ledge, portage through the woods, and then slide back into the set up eddy for the bottom drop, right off the river-right bank. If only there were 10 more of these drops - this run would be a classic!
