Gore Canyon Festival 2023 Event

Come Celebrate Gore Fest On August 25-26, 2023, American Whitewater will be gathering our community on the Colorado River at Pumphouse Rec Area to celebrate our work in the southern Rockies. While we won’t be hosting an official race through Gore this year, we still will gather and enjoy river time together as another river season is closing out in Colorado. Join us to camp, renew your membership and have a chance to win some awesome prizes. And we won’t let you go without another year of a sweet Gore Fest t-shirt. We won’t have any organized on-water activities, but just like last year, we expect to have a lot of fun catching up with friends on the river bank. American Whitewater will have a tent by the Gore Canyon Whitewater Park at Pumphouse all day on Saturday the 26th. Come by and say hey, renew your membership, and enter to win some awesome prizes from our membership drawing. Camping, as usual, is on a first come first serve basis and you’ll need to be sure to stop at the fee station to cover parking and camping fees with the BLM. There will not be any river settles provided. We hope that starting next year we can get back to a bigger event with competitions, but for this year please still come out and enjoy your river family! Gore Fest will go on! This event is hosted through a Special Use Permit with the Bureau of Land Management.

Gore Fest provides us with an opportunity to reflect on this iconic stretch of whitewater as well as the important stewardship work that American Whitewater has done for the Upper Colorado River. American Whitewater is heavily invested in the protection of the Colorado River and actively participates in long-term streamflow protection through the BLM and Forest Service management planning, and played a critical role in securing the Gore Canyon whitewater park Recreational In-Channel Diversion (RICD), which gives boating flows on the Colorado River legal protection under State water law. American Whitewater is also the leading representative of the recreational community on the Upper Colorado River Wild and Scenic Stakeholders group where flows for the Colorado River are negotiated by American Whitewater and our stakeholders. Gore Fest is our time to celebrate this beautiful place we work hard to protect, and an opportunity for paddlers, industry, and partners to enjoy and support our cooperative stewardship efforts.
