American Whitewater and our affiliate club partners negotiated 10 annual releases on the Class Tallulah Gorge and public access to the river, which began in 1997. Saturday releases are at 500cfs, and Sunday releases are at 700cfs. The releases occur on the first two weekends in April, and the first three weekends in November, and have become a treasured recreational opportunity. Regional paddling clubs organize dozens of volunteers each year to make the releases possible.

The New Haven Race has been a staple of the northeast whitewater scene since 2009. Born as an event for locals to challenge each other for bragging rights, the race has grown into a region-wide attraction. The current day version sees paddlers from all over the northeastern US, Quebec and southern Ontario show up for a shot at the podium. While it has varied in format, course length, and water levels, what always remains a guarantee is that it will be a day of excellent whitewater with a great community well attended by spectators from across the region.
