SUMMARY:Salmon River Whitewater Gathering (CA)
DESCRIPTION:Explore the Whitewater of the Salmon River Watershed! \n🌊 Join friends old and new for a weekend of whitewater fun in the stunning Salmon River watershed. It’s all free-flowing\, wild\, and waiting for you. April 10-12\, 2026.\n\nThis year’s Gathering is earlier than usual due to low snowpack in the Salmon Mountains—we want to catch the rivers while flows are still good. The mainstem Salmon will definitely be runnable\, and flows on the forks will depend on rain and snowmelt—but we’re optimistic they’ll be in.\n\n All crafts welcome: kayaks\, rafts\, catarafts\, packrafts\, whitewater canoes\, SUPs\, inflatable sofas\, tubes—whatever floats (just keep it safe).\n\n Not boating? There’s great hiking\, biking\, and plenty to do on land.\n\nThis is an unofficial\, unorganized gathering—no program\, no host. The people who show up make it what it is. Bring good energy\, friends and family\, boats\, bikes\, instruments\, food\, and libations. And as always: Leave No Trace.\n\n Camping: Nordheimer Campground (4 miles downstream of Forks of Salmon)• $8/night\, cash only — Forest Service checks payments• Picnic tables\, fire rings (permit required)\, bathrooms• Public phone (credit card or collect)• No potable water — bring all you need\n\nThe campground is the take-out for Class II–III runs and the put-in for a Class IV/V run\, with several other runs nearby.\n\n No cell service. No internet. Just you\, the river\, and the mountains.

SUMMARY:Upper Nantahala and Cascades Releases (NC)
DESCRIPTION:Each year Duke Energy releases various ideal boating flows into the Cascades and Upper sections of the Nantahala River on eight days each year: one weekend in April\, one weekend in September\, and four weekday afternoons in the summer. American Whitewater and our affiliate clubs negotiated these releases in the early 2000’s and meet with stakeholders each year to schedule the releases and address any issues. These releases provide water in a Class III+ section and a Class V section of the Nantahala River. Parking is an issue\, so paddlers are encouraged to use a shuttle service or park well off the the paved road. The April Saturday release is at 250cfs\, The April Sunday release is at 350cfs\, the summer afternoons are at 250cfs\, The September Saturday is at 300cfs\, and the September Sunday release is at 425cfs from 10am to 3pm\, and 250cfs from 3 to 5pm.

SUMMARY:Green River Cleanup (WA)
DESCRIPTION:Every May on the Green River in Washington State\, the whitewater community and local volunteers come together for the annual Green River Cleanup\, a long-running river stewardship event organized largely by Washington Recreational River Runners and other paddling clubs and conservation groups. The cleanup focuses on removing trash and debris from the Green River Gorge and surrounding river corridors\, with participants cleaning both from boats on the water and on foot along the shoreline. Over decades this tradition has drawn hundreds of boaters and ground crews to pull out everything from beverage containers to larger discarded items\, helping preserve the scenic river and its classic whitewater runs while fostering a strong sense of community and stewardship. In person registration can be done from 10am-11am at the Headworks put in (just before the City of Tacoma gate on river left)\, and at Kanasket-Palmer State Park (in the parking lot near Ledge Drop One) from 9:30am- 10:30am.The day wraps up with a barbecue at Flaming Geyser State Park Picnic Shelter #3 where volunteers can celebrate their efforts. The barbecue is after the river cleanup safety and sweep boat committee arrives. Usually it starts around 3pm and wraps up around 6pm +/- river time.

SUMMARY:Peavine Whitewater Race
DESCRIPTION:Just about anyone who has been on whitewater before can participate in this race. It’s suitable for students in college paddling clubs\, strong downriver canoe racers\, youth with summer camp whitewater experience\, older folks in the ‘master’s class’\, die-hard class 5 boaters looking for some fast fun\, and youngsters racing with seasoned adult teammates. This race is designed to be a place where all boaters can get together. Please register in advance to keep things smooth on race day. DON’T FORGET RIVER HELMETS AND PFDs. BOTH ARE REQUIRED. \nThe takeout is huge\, leave as many cars down there as possible. Consolidate boats and boaters and bring the fewest cars possible to the put-in. We try to have some volunteers run shuttle rigs but if you are traveling alone it’s best to get to the takeout on the early side and figure out a ride with other racers. Pick up your bib and sign waivers at Peavine Park. Suit up and warm up on the way down to the bridge where the start happens at high noon. \nThe first three miles of the race\, from the start to Blackmer Boulevard bridge\, is a little easier than the last two miles from Blackmer down to Gaysville Bridge. Blackmer Boulevard is the place to pull the plug if you feel like you are in over your head. The last mile especially features the trickiest and most continuous rapids. Finish under the Gaysville Bridge and take a breather on the big gravel bar.

SUMMARY:68th Annual Mother's Day Whitewater Races
DESCRIPTION:New Mexico’s own whitewater boating competition will hold its 68th installment this Mother’s Day in Pilar\, NM. The Mother’s Day Whitewater Races (MDR) include competitions inviting kayakers\, rafters\, canoeists\, and pack rafters to join us on our famous Rio Grande. Festivities start May 8 with an evening welcome potluck and river side campout at Rio Bravo Campground.
