SUMMARY:Green River Cleanup (WA)
DESCRIPTION:Every May on the Green River in Washington State\, the whitewater community and local volunteers come together for the annual Green River Cleanup\, a long-running river stewardship event organized largely by Washington Recreational River Runners and other paddling clubs and conservation groups. The cleanup focuses on removing trash and debris from the Green River Gorge and surrounding river corridors\, with participants cleaning both from boats on the water and on foot along the shoreline. Over decades this tradition has drawn hundreds of boaters and ground crews to pull out everything from beverage containers to larger discarded items\, helping preserve the scenic river and its classic whitewater runs while fostering a strong sense of community and stewardship. In person registration can be done from 10am-11am at the Headworks put in (just before the City of Tacoma gate on river left)\, and at Kanasket-Palmer State Park (in the parking lot near Ledge Drop One) from 9:30am- 10:30am.The day wraps up with a barbecue at Flaming Geyser State Park Picnic Shelter #3 where volunteers can celebrate their efforts. The barbecue is after the river cleanup safety and sweep boat committee arrives. Usually it starts around 3pm and wraps up around 6pm +/- river time.
