This section of the Chauga is a nice class 2/3 canoe float that happens to have a 100 yard long class 5 section about a half a mile into it. There are three back to back slides and waterfalls in a section called the narrows. Local hairboating types have run all of them. The better portage trail is down river right.
After that the river calms down and is a nice pleasant float down to Cassidy Bridge.

Scary rapids with a waterfall and some slots.

1.5 - 2 hour ducky float that took 4 hours of portaging, crawling over, scraping under, and around way too many downed trees. Put in at Grapevine Campground (after Narrows), take out Cassidy Bridge. I recommend leaving this section to the numerous fishermen.
