Rogue, North Fork

This is an absolutely gorgeous section of river that is not frequently run with exceptional scenery. The course meanders through pristine forest and stunning layers of pumice deposited from Mt. Mazama's eruption. Most of the run is flat water with the occasional class I and II. The final 1/2 mile before Bybee Creek is continuous II culminating in a class III rapid visible at the take out. There is a massive log jam with an easy portage trail on river right halfway through the run. The trail is roughly 1/8-1/4 mile long. A few small log portages exist elsewhere on the river. I did the run at around 450cfs and it took me two hours of continuous padding. Expect a long day if you lolligag. Continuing downstream of the Bybee Creek confluence is not recommended: the river enters the unrunnable Rogue River Gorge not far downstream: beware!
