Downstream of the dam/chutes, strong current rips a long way downstream in the 'pool' of the river. There are strong flowing eddies returning upstream along shore. Unfortunately, this often means there will be very turbulent eddy-fences, making it tricky (to difficult, to impossible!) to get from near shore out and onto the wave (when it does exist). On the date and time this photo was taken, there was no meaningful, relatively consistent or surfable wave in evidence.
