Between the main 'wings' of the lower dam in Janesville, there is a chute immediately to river-left of a bridge pier. This looks like it could be a 'canoe chute', meant to make running the dam possible (at some flows), instead of having to portage. However, (1) at least at the time of this photo, it has accumulated a bunch of wood (whole trees and large branches in the water upstream, in addition to the ones visible in the photo, lieing atop the concrete) which block passage, and (2) the boil from the river-right flank of the dam extends out far enough that it appears possible to end up caught into that backwash.
