River Description

Rock Creek offers a scenic and pleasant float trip for kayakers, canoeists, and rafters that is predominantly straighforward Class I-II and features exceptional angling.  The exception to the relatively simple channel is a short section of whitewater called the Dalles, located near the campground of the same name.  Whitewater paddlers can find good put-ins and take-outs along the road to paddle just the Dalles.

The Dalles is a slalom paddlers dream, and a great training ground for technical paddling.  While the whitewater is fairly low gradient and generally has easy routes through, the smooth gumdrop boulders scattered around the river offer challenging ferries, boofs, and eddy turn sequences.

As with all rivers, especially in Montana, wood is a significant hazard so stay alert.  Rock Creek is a treasured angling desitnation so please give anglers plenty of room on the river, and if you are fishing be sure to check on the unusual regulations that are unique to Rock Creek.
