The Colorado River has been over-allocated and mismanaged for more than a century. Known as the hardest working river in the western US, the Colorado River flows from Rocky Mountain National Park in Colorado to Mexico where it gets sucked dry before reaching its mouth in the Sea of [...]Read More
River Description
This run can be split in half by taking out at the highway rest stop (accessible from eastbound lanes only) and walking up the bank. No boat ramp exists here. Small boats will often float down from Two Rivers Park to this access to include Dino Hole.
South Canyon to Dinosaur/Tibbets
More class II awaits on this highway side section of the Colorado. Small sets of rocks give some action and Dino Hole, just upstream of your take out, can be a monster hole at flows between 9k and 14k before washing out. Stay right as you approach the highway rest area that serves as your take out to avoid the hole and catch the big eddy with sandy beach.
Dinosaur/Tibbets to New Castle
This class I-II stretch is a step down from the previous sections below Glenwood. No named features exist here, just wide rolling waters. Take out at the inconspicuous paved ramp river left. Look for the green open space of the town’s frisbee golf course.
Access
Put in at the South Canyon boat ramp. Take exit 111 and turn towards the river, then turn right (downstream) into the parking lot for the ramp.
Take out at the ramp river left. Exit 105, then head south across the river. On the other side, turn right on 335 and head downstream to the first right turn.
