River Description

The South Fork of the Two Medicine River offers paddlers an extremely scenic trip through the Rocky Mountain Front.  At flows around 1300 the river is Class III or III+, with the highlights being a handful of bedrock ledge drops.  Higher flows would bump the difficulty up to at least Class IV, with the ledge holes packing some serious power.

Hike in on the Two Med-Heart Butte Trail No. 101 to reach the put in.  Take out on river-right at Heart Butte Cutt-off Road.

Please respect the private property near the put-in and never block a road or gate.  A Blackfeet Tribal Conservation Permit is required to use the take-out.  These can be conveniently purchased online @ blackfeetfishandwildlife.net. They are $20 per year.  Do not run this river without a conservation permit. Additionally, your boat will need to be inspected in Browning at the Blackfeet Fish and Game checkpoint.

Boating on the reservation is open as of 5/10/17. The zebra mussel inspection station is located 1/4 west of browning on highway 2. Please help protect our waters from invasive species. Also the reservation could fine you up to 5000 dollars. Good run no wood as of 5/12/17.

A fun and very scenic day paddling from the mountains to the plains on the Blackfeet Reservation. We picked up our Blackfeet Conservation Permits first at a nearby gas station. This run is among the most easily accessed in the area, and has nice bedrock ledgey rapids. Our crew was a neat combo of a couple different groups that crossed paths to paddle.

Currently, this run is closed due to the mussels found at Tiber. The tribe says they will open the reservation back up to watercraft in May 2017. Check that this has happened and have your boat inspected as State inspections sites do not work for runs on the reservation. The Inspection Station is between Browning and East Glacier. Also, Tribal Conservation Permits can be purchased at Game and Fish in Browning or Online.
