River Description
Flowing through Capitol Reef with spectacular views of the slickrock canyon. During the rare times of higher flows the run is a fast and continuous flush through a desert canyon.
A waterfall towards the end of the run is not something you want to run without scouting and the area is under a closure order by the Park. Use caution as you approach it.
Logistics: From Highway 24 mile 79.4 enter Capitol Reef National Park headed towards Fruita and the Campground. At 1.1 mile from the highway you will reach the bridge across the Freemont River near the campground. Put-in here or continue up to the campground which allows access to the river if you are staying overnight.
The waterfall listed as the take-out is at mile 85.9 on Highway 24. In recent years the Park has instituted a closure order for the area in the immediate vicininty of the waterfall. A few pull-outs offer access upstream and downstream of the falls. One of these downstream of the falls is at Highway 24 mile 86.8.
