The Upper Green 2.0 post-Helene has some good surprises, some bad surprises, and one major safety issue, a couple hundred yards upstream (SW) of the I-26 high bridge, 35.27167, -82.37667. The river performs a C-shaped bend here. The river has cut a NEW CHANNEL across the opening of the 'C.' From the pool above the C bend you will be able to see the new channel heading straight toward the bridge, which is barely visible through the trees. The old channel to the left is still there, and still has the majority of the water. DON'T GO LEFT here, particularly in high water.

The left-hand route has several strainers (large tangles of fallen trees) that you will NOT be able to see before you are committed. At low water you will be probably be able to exit your boat before becoming entangled. At high water you're very likely to get caught in a very scary strainer if you go left down the old channel. Proceed down the new channel with caution, though, as there are plenty of newly downed trees available to move into unexpected places here and everywhere else along the river.

Be careful of the underwater rock at the bottom of the Bayless Boof's left channel. It's on the right side of the drop and can shatter or vertically pin a boat

Nasty strainer river right in the runout of Wanda's Hole (within 20 feet) where the water pushes up against the river right wall. From above, you can see the branches of the large tree protruding from the water, but the 10' trunk and many more branches are submerged. Be very cautious here.
