River Description
Put-in likely requires permission from private property. Absent being able to secure that, it may be possible to park and carry up from Heritage Drive (or skip the upper gradient and just put in at Heritage). Take-out is at the Michigan Iron Industry Museum. Again, if use of this site for patking and take-out is disputed, it may be necessary to continue another 1/3-mile of flatwater downriver to Forge Road (at the Negaunee Cemetery).
This stretch includes a couple good areas of gradient, including 'Upper Carp River Falls'.
River Features
Put In
Upper Carp River Falls
After you pass under Hwy.28/41, the river heads WSW to parallel the highway for a bit. As it takes a sharp left (South) bend, and another left (heading East), then a right (South), as it drops through the highlight of this run, Upper Carp River Falls.
Description and photos of these drops are available at: Waterfalls of the Keweenaw.
Nearly a half-mile of low-grade run-out rapids take you nearly to the Museum for your (earliest possible) take-out.
