Cascade Creek

Seeing the name Cascade Creek fires up the imagination of the explorer/boater, picturing wonderful extended stretches of rapids and falls. Well, don't let your imagination get too far into that fantasy. Most of this creek (at least, as best as can be told from topo maps and aerial views online) fritters away relatively mild gradient on brief mild riffles and rips, more of the time appearing to have issues with extremely likely deadfall. It really only earns its name in one brief pitch just a quarter-mile above its confluence with the W.Br.Ontonagon.

Anyone wishing to view or 'park-and-huck' this drop will drive to a small access/parking area North of where the creek crosses Forest Road 400 (the access should be marked with a sign for Cascade Falls). You'll have very nearly a half-mile hike (each way) to the falls. (Note: On aerial views you may notice/detect an apparent dirt-road toward the falls on the South of the creek. This is a private driveway to a house on river-right, not far above the falls. Unless you are willing and able to ask and obtain permission from them, we must recommend using the public access on the North of the creek, even though it entails a longer walk.)
