This roadside run has a few high quality rapids separated by stretches of class II. The take out is only 10 minutes from Pacific City (Oregon Coast).
There is a wide gravel area for parking at the put in, try to park out of the way and not blocking mailboxes. The bridge here is one way so this pull out is used to pull off the road and let vehicles pass so take that into account when parking your vehicle. The first section allows for a warm up with easy, but busy class II. The river passes a nice house and below is a horizon line at a sloping, blind-ish ledge. The right side has a backed up hole, so slide down in the middle of the river. More read and run leads to Muscott rapid, which can be scouted from a bedrock ledge in the middle of the river at low and moderate flows, and along the right bank. At higher levels it can be easier to scout Muscott from a pull out during the shuttle (45.1085145056868, -123.8518847108381). The main line is along the left channel, hugging the islands, but other options exist including a sneak line to the right of the bedrock islands.
Around the corner is a bridge (which can be used as a put in for shorter runs), and a short flat stretch before the most action packed section of the river at Yach Rapids. Yach rapids is about half a mile long, starting off as a continuous boulder garden, with a few more distinct ledges near the end. The whole stretch can easily be scouted from the road during the shuttle, which is easier than scouting from the river and recommended, though it can be read and ran. At low flows one move in particular is worth having committed to memory about half way down. Things slow down and there are some short ledges after that move. Yach Rapids rapids ends at Yach bridge, and it is possible to do laps by walking up the road, or locals sometimes even shuttle this section a few times before moving on.
Class III fades to class II downstream, then be on the look out for a rapid with a few
...The put in is at the bridge just upstream of Small Creek. People use the gravel turn out here to let vehicles crossing the one way bridge pass, so keep that in mind when choosing how to park. A short path leads down to the water upstream of the bridge.
The gravel pull out on the corner here is small but accommodates a few vehicles. Scout your take out path while setting shuttle, as well as the eddy above Upton Falls.
