River Description
SUP descent of Willamina Creek starting at Buck Hollow
This run is generally in when the South Yamhill @ Willamina gauge reaches over 2,000 cfs.
It also has it's own gauge, but the range has not been figured out yet.
Paddlers who want a couple of class III's can start at Blackwell Park, or even consider starting part way through the next section upstream.
If you put in at Blackwell, it is easy to scout Blackwell Rapid at the bottom of the park along a trail, or even use this trail to put in below the rapid. Blackwell Rapid is usually run along the left bank.
Downstream is mostly fairly easy read and run class I-II until the Tindle Ledge, which can be scouted from the right when the horizon line at the 3' drop is first seen. The right side of the ledge has a bit of a hole, but the left side can be read and ran.
Tindle Creek bridge is just downstream, and can be used as a put in to skip the class III's upstream. The run below the Tindle bridge mostly consists of fast moving flat water with sharper corners that produce eddies. Be on the look out for the occasional wood hazard. While alongside the Mill, there is one more short ramp that can be run middle.
There are a couple of decent surf waves, one that is at the downstream end of the mill can be surfed endlessly at 600 cfs.
The little bit of bedrock visible upstream of the bridge in town can create a couple small surf waves as well.
At lower levels, the Willamina Creek confluence with the SF Yamhill can make for a nice stern squirt location. The take out is immediately on the left after hitting the SF Yamhill, it is worth scoping out this trail from Hampton Park while setting shuttle.
