River Description
The Gull is a fantastic, short section of river. The whole section can be walked top to bottom in about 5 minutes so it is the place for many laps. It is fairly steep, and does not pool until the bottom lake. The difficulty steadily increases as you move farther up the river, so it is suitable for learners, playboaters, and CIV river runners. It also has good trails beside it and road access along it's length.
River Features
Put In
Dam Drop
The run over the dam at the top can be dangerous depending on the water level, and may be illegal. It is commonly run, however.
First Drop
The river flows out of the pool below the falls through a slot. Eddys to aim for on either side after the drop. Mind the rock on RR.
Earl's Hole
A fantastic play feature on the river. Easy eddy access on either side. A solid roll reccomended, as the river continues flowing fast after the hole. A great spot for consistant playboating.
Wildhorse Falls
Following Earl's the river continue to drop through some CIII slots as it approaches a right turn. At the tail end of the turn is a 20ft slide called Wildhorse Falls. This is a fairly straightforward point and shoot slide, but some gnarly rocks and reactionaries at the bottom can make it difficult. Scouting is advised as the line can change significantly at different water levels.
Middle Section
After the falls the river take a left turn, with an eddy on the right that most will recover in after Wildhorse. On RR directly after this eddy, is the 'Toilet Bowl' a nice little whirlpool that can mess up some begginers. After this it is a rock dodge and eddy hop down until the river turns right around the island.
Boof Rock
As the river turns to the right, and flows through a slot (an easy right hand eddy punch for the simple way), a fun little boof move forms off the rock on RL. The river turns left, and a large rock sits in the middle and gaurds the entrance to the otter slide.
Otter Slide
The infamous feature of the Gull. Love it or hate it, it's there. It is a simple slide into a wave train. The issue is that it can be quite shallow, and is made from a concrete slab that is said to be cracked. Apparently at low water it can be bad news for swimmers and boats, though folks have swam it many times without incident by keeping their butt up.
5 O-Clock Wave
There is a surf wave that comes in and gets good at higher water levels. This is the run out into the lake, and a good training ground for begginer boaters.
