River Description

For most of this run, starting at Pinecliff Park, it's a slow float with the occasional gravel bar.   From Mike Neuman:   About 200 yards above Buckeystown Park there are a few small class 1(2) rapids.  The first of these rapids is the biggest, you will notice a low head dam that stretched most of the way across the river, this is the signal for the first rapid.  There is a channel on river right at normal flows that can be run easily with a small wave train and some boogie water afterward.  However, at high water (9.5ft-11ft) this low head dam forms a 50 ft wide standing wave that is a really good surf wave.  This can be accessed along Michaels Mill road.  There are a few pull offs right along the river, just above the wave.  Be cautious about surfing too far river left as there are strainers about 30 feet downstream from the wave.  Also be cautious that when the river gauge reaches about 11-12ft, Michaels Mill road will be closed for flooding.
