Put in below Dam #4 and run down to the Shepherdstown, WV boat ramp. Big Woods C&O hiker/biker campground is about 1.9 miles below the Dam #4 put-in. Taylor's Landing provides access about 3.5 miles below Dam #4. Horseshoe Bend C&O Campground is another mile down (4.5 miles below Dam #4). Barrons Country Store at Snyder's Landing provides access about 7.5 miles below Dam #4. At about mile 8.7 below Dam # 4 is Killiansburg Cave on the Maryland (river left) side where there is also a C&O hiker/biker campground. Also, the current is slow enough upstream of the Shepherdstown boat ramp that you can paddle upstream until tired and then float downstream back to the boat ramp. In addition to the Princess Street boat ramp in Shepherdstown, WV, there is also access on the Maryland side at C&O Canal Lock 38.

At about mile 8.7 below Dam # 4 is Killiansburg Cave on the Maryland (river left) side where there is also a C&O hiker/biker campground.
Take-out at the Princess Street boat ramp in Shepherdstown, WV. There is also access on the Maryland side of the Shepherdstown bridge at C&O Canal Lock 38.
