Reddies River
Route 1546 to North Wilkesboro
Trip Reports
Log in to add a reportThere is a nice drop almost the size of Suddy Hole shortly below old Rt. 16.
If one does not want to run the last 6 miles, take out at Windy Ridge Rd. and head down to Mulberry Ck just east of Wilkesboro downstream of Rt. 268 for a 1 1/4 mile run. There are two strong IIs or low IIIs depending on ones opinion.
If the Reddies is really high, one can paddle the class IV section of the Middle Fork Reddies in the vicinity of Clear Branch along side old Rt. 16. Stay away in April due to trout fisherman. The gradient here is about 120 fpm and the drainage size is about 9-12 square miles.
Another short but sweet run in the area is Big Bugaboo Ck. It is the size of New Hope Ck. The take out is on Rt. 268. Consider this a class IV run.
This tiny little river isnt much, great for a strict beginner level, although, once it reaches flood stage this river is a blast, not many big rapids, but a constant wave train.
Looking upstream at Cookie Monster rapid.
Looking back at Little Monster Rapid after I ran it.
