River Description
This is another popular float in Athens. Keep an eye out for a pipe that crosses about a mile into the trip. The float seems very remote and is a great escape. About 2 miles below Simonton Bridge is the remnants of White's Dam, which was removed in 2018. There are now riffles where the dam once used to be.
River Features
Put In
Put in at Macon Hwy. As of Feb 2019 there is not a public access point and parking is along the road, upstream of the bridge, either on river right or left. From the upstream side of the bridge, carry down to the river and put in under the bridge.
Take Out
Suggested takeout is river right, almost under the Barnett Shoals Road bridge. There are no designated parking areas so scout out the best spot.
For a shorter trip, one can put in or takeout at Simonton Bridge Road. There is limited roadside parking on river left with a trail to the river on the upstream side of the bridge.
