River Description
Although technically a roadside run, the East Fork South Fork Salmon is barely visible from the Cecilville Road, and perhaps this lack of visibility combined with its rough and tumble character has kept all but a few paddlers away.
Perhaps guidebook author Dan Menten says it best in The New School Guide to Northern California Whitewater: 'This run is only for people who enjoy paddling big, many drops and those who are willing to take a hit and portage often'. This run is serious business and any group attempting it should be fully prepared.
The 2021 River Complex burned the river left side the East Fork South Fork so be alert for extra wood in the river system from this fire and the fire suppression effort. The river was the fireline and crews cut snags and trees along its banks; some may be blocking the river.
