River Description

Youngs Creek meets with Danaher Creek to form the South Fork Flathead. At lower flows it features class II-III boulder gardens and at higher flows it becomes very pushy with class III+ to IV- rapids. While the South Fork Flathead is a great packrafting trip for novice paddlers, Youngs Creek should only be attempted by paddlers with whitewater experience.

To find the put-in, you are looking for the spot where the wide valley narrows into a small gorge and the burned forest turns into a live forest. Upstream from the section shown on the map, the Youngs Creek drainage was decimated by wildfire. The upper sections of the creek are currently full of wood. Avoid the tempation to put in early as you will end up portaging more than paddling.
