8.9 Miles below Kelvin: Complete channel blockage, no easy portage.

Barbed wire immediately past the railroad trestle bridge 3.25 miles downstream of Cochran. Passable on river left.
Traveled from Winkleman to Ashurst Hayden Dam 3.8.09 - 3.12.09. Multiple hazards (complete stream blockage by downed trees in several places and, worse yet, 7 barb wire fences ... some of which you can't see until you are right on top of them). Stream flow was in the 410 CFS range - multiple channels - many small rapids. We canoed ... and had two swampings and several near swampings. Several areas of strong backflow. My son and I have closed to 400 miles of experience canoeing ... this was the most challenging and dangerous. NOT FOR THE INEXPERIENCED. tucsonbil@cox.net
there is a river wide strainer apprx 100 yards downriver of the christmas mine put in. two kayakers were pushed into this very large tree at about 800cfs.
