River Description
I have only run this once, so take any statements with a grain of salt. We ran it at 1100 cfs on the St. Regis Gauge, and it was a great level.
Put-in can be a problem. We found a trail from Howe Rd. that brought us into the river about 1 mile upstream of the start of the whitewater, but I doubt this is an 'sanctioned' put-in. Other than searching for unposted trails along Howe Rd., or asking permission, other options are to put in way upstream as mentioned in 'New York Exposed', or use Dexter Lake Outlet, as mentioned in the below comment.
The rapids start about 1 mile above the route 458 bridge. Straightforward, continuous, boat scoutable rapids to just above the 458 bridge. Most interesting stuff starts about 200 yards above the bridge. Scout on river right to keep out of people's yards. Below the bridge (just out of sight if you are standing on the bridge) is an interesting drop that is worth a look, Scout on river right. Below this, there is one more fun drop/slide, then river starts to ease off as it joins the St. Regis.
Take out is 0.7 miles downstream on the St. Regis River, at the Mill Rd. bridge.

Trip Reports
Log in to add a reportWe put in on Dexter Lake outlet, a small trib. As it seemed better than trying to find the hike-in,p or putting in higher up. Dexter Lake outlet is very narrow, has low bridges, strainers, and a couple of good rapids.
Lake ozonia has a fair bit of flat after Dexter Lake outlet joins it, but when you approach the main road bridge, things get extrememly continuous and the rapids from here to the takeout are great!
