River Description
Neversink Gorge light. This stretch starts where the gorge section ends, and is mostly easy class 1 to 2, but has a couple of short spots that will probably be class 3, but very straightforward. The first half is alongside the road, but there's generally not much traffic. The second half is away from the road and mosty undeveloped.
Just downstream from the takeout the Neversink meets the Bashakill, which drains a very large wetland. This means that as levels drop the gauge reading may reflect the water draining the wetland more than this stretch of the Neversink. The minimum is probably around 1200 cfs at Godeffroy, but 1500 and up is probably better. At high water you can expect to find some big water class 3.
The take out is immediately upstream of the route 209 bridge (be sure to leave room around the white pipe at the back of the lot; it's for filling fire department trucks), or about 1/4 mile upstream at the Neversink Valley Museum on Hoag Rd.

Trip Reports
Log in to add a reportRan this on 5/22/11 at 1990 CFS on the Godeffroy gauge, which is probably the gauge to use for this section. Bridgeville was 985, but 3 weeks ago Goddefroy was only 1500 when Bridgeville was 990. The minimum is probably around 1200 or so at Godeffroy, but I'd want at least 1500. At the level we had this was mostly class 2, but some of the wave trains were fairly big and pushy. At higher levels this is probably a solid class 3 that's a lot of fun. While not as remote as the gorge above, this is a pretty stretch and we saw a bald eagle. Half of it is away from the road, and the road doesn't usually intrude too much. There's a very easy take out immediately upstream of the route 209 bridge. [edit] Ran this again on 6/24. Bridgeville was 1100 and Godeffroy was 2400. I've now seen the Godeffroy gauge be 50% more than Bridgeville and 120% more. While everything is still flowing there's a lot of additional inflow above the put in for this section. The Godeffroy gauge includes the flow from a very large swamp that joins just downstream of this section, and I'm guessing that as levels have dropped a reading of 1200 or so might be too low above that confluence. If Godeffroy is below 1500 I'd also want Bridgeville to be at least 700 or so.
