River Description
Maumee Rapids
This is a big wide river with small ledge type rapids and very few eddys. There are some nice surfing waves and a few side surfing holes. From the put in it starts out flat with Missionary Island on the right , when you get to the end of the Island go river right for some warm up surf waves.
Just down stream is Roche de Bout rapids, go river left of a big rock with a good wave, good eddy here.
Next Island run river left for what Tim Staley calls M illion Dollar Wave, a river wide wave.
Watch for a nice play wave/hole on the far left by some big houses .
The biggest rapid T urkey Foot comes at the end of the run ,just up stream of the I- 475 bridge. You can park and play at this rapid with out a shuttle. The waves/holes can get fairly big and at 6500 the current is strong with no eddys.
Watch out for the fisherman on this run. It is a popular spot in the spring and they wade out in the river to fish. At the higher flows they can't get out as far so there is more room to paddle. I went there one time and the water was good but too many fisherman to paddle.
If you have any info that you would like to add please e-mail me and I will add it to this page.
The Sandusky River is fun and only 30 min. away.
The Upper Sandusky River at Tiffin is only 45 min. away and can be fun too.
