Log in to add an alertThe wood reported on April 15th, 2016 has moved! It is no longer above S-turn and the rapid is now free of wood. The offending tree has moved downstream and is referenced in the updated wood report by jloos2020 on May 24th, 2017. As of June 10th, 2016 the wood referenced is still in place but was able to be skirted on the left at a flow of 650 cfs making this a portage free run if you're on your toes AT THAT FLOW. There is still wood throughout to be dealt with and approached with caution.
Wood Report 5/21/2017
Two river wide logs were present on our run 5/21/2017. The first one is about 4-5 miles in and has a small low passageway which kayakers were able to go under at ~1000cfs. The second was about a half mile beyond the first and spanned the entire river. It was floating in the water but blocked by two other pieces of wood. Both these logs would be very difficult removals. Both pieces were able to be portaged by 3 rafts so don't let these ruin your run just be on your toes!
Finally a third log was present at the rapid right above The Slot. This wood was removed by our party and is roped off on river right.
Stay safe and have fun!
There is a river-wide tree down below the first ledge, but above the meat of S-turn rapid. It is visible on the dive up and is in the first half of the run. An eddy above and an eddy below the first ledge, both on the right, provide an opportunity to portage. At flows over 1500 it is likely you could go right over it. It was a mandatory portage at three different runs between 750, 850, and 1200.
