Soggy. The first occurs where the river splits around an island with most of the flow going left. A tree, with many branches, extends from the left bank to the island and is completely in the river. The tree is not noticed until a boater is committed to the drop. It was marginally possible to land on the right (the left side of the island) and then portage. It is also possible to take the small right channel around the island if you recognize this place in time.
The second hazard is in the Class 2 rapids about 1/4 mile below the bridge in Crawfordsville. A large root ball is lodged on the rocks at the top - middle of the rapids. On the right, a log and some hanging tree limbs make the entrance to the normal right side route a bit dangerous.
In general, there was above normal debris in the river from the recent February and March floods. These hazards were not present in January. The debris will probably not wash out until a flood occurs next fall or next winter.
