River Description

Soggy Sneakers has some information.  Robb Keller's Paddling Oregon has much more detailed information on the lower and Upper Graves Creek runs.

Putting in near Poorman creek, the lower run is class III-III+ down to the Rogue.  It could be run high, but watch out for willows growing in the streambed.  The stream is large enough for rafts when the flows are up.  Take out at the Graves Creek Boat Ramp on the right just after entering the Rogue, below the road bridge.  Miss this take out and you will be on the Wild and Scenic section of the Rogue.  Alternately, this run could be added to the beggining of a Winter time Wild and Scenic Rogue trip.

The run was at a medium/low flow when the Rogue@Grants Pass was at 10,000 cfs.  It could be done a little lower.

There is an upper class V stretch on the east side of I-5 starting just above Eastman Gulch/just below Clark Creek and ending at Mccoy Ck Rd bridge.  This run is about 3.5 miles long and consists of continuous class IV-V boulder gardens. 10,000 cfs was a low runnable level.  More water would be better for covering up some of the nasty rocks and cleaning up lines.  Too much water and stopping would become difficult.
