*Scroll down for the West Fork Millicoma gauge.
3.65' was bumpy but runnable
4.5' is still low, but worthwhile.
5' is an excellent medium flow.
River: A wonderful stream in the Oregon coastal range with many friendly surf opportunities and plenty of fun intermediate rapids.
Take out at the gauge bridge (43.47661646716695, -124.05668231461581) on WF Millicoma Rd, or about three miles higher at a road side pull-out (43.48321183152366, -124.0275606791986) about 3 miles upstream to just get the best part of the run.
The put in as at the furthest public point on WF Millicoma Rd, within sight of a gate on the road. Things start off fun with lots of good surf waves if flows are around 5'. After some time things ease off for a bit. As the river makes a large loop away from the road things pick up. Near the end of the loop is 'Henry's Falls'. Eddy out on the right as the river falls away to the left to scout. There is a channel along the left bank that is run at low water (4'ish), but at medium and high flows the line is over a smooth slab along the right bank to avoid the left channel that gets dangerous and a large hole in the center of the river.
Downstream is a section of fun read and run rapids, watch out for a couple holes that can get sticky at high water. During an easier section of the river, 13 mile creek enters from river right and there is a set of good surf waves.
Not too far after these waves fade is 'Girl Scout Triple Drop', which should be scouted from the left bank on a first trip at any given water level by stopping at a small beach as the river bends left. This rapid can be viewed from the shuttle as well, and that is the most convenient time to pick a line through the bottom portion of the rapid.
Downstream are more read and run rapids before a horizon li

Trip Reports
Log in to add a reportA group of us ran from just below the gate down to the bridge on 2024-12-17 at a level of 4.8'. This was an excellent flow for coverage, while maintaining a forgiving character. A couple of the people in the group had done the lower three miles of the run at about 4' a couple weeks earlier and felt that was runnable but rather low and scrapey. There were no wood portages when we were there, and really there were no wood problems I can recall. This run has more friendly surf waves than any other run I have done, most are catch on the fly but there are plenty of eddy serviced ones as well. The Girl Scout Triple Drop was visible from the road, it was nice to get a feel for the layout of the rapid, especially the lower part during the shuttle. It was also scoutable from river-left once on the river.
