River Description
River Description:
General
The Codorus Creek is also called the inky stinky Codorus, because there is definitiely an unpleasant smell and taste to the water. For one, PH Gladfelter (pulp and paper company) dumps 'treated process' water into the Codorus Creek miles upstream. This gives the water the light chocolate color. In addition, directly below the PA-24 bridge, a waste water treatment plant dumps treated water into the Codorus from river right. The water quality is acceptable for plant and fish (according to PA DEP), however a few people have gotten sick from taking in two much water on this creek. At lower levels, the Creek definitely smells, at higher levels it is not as noticeable.
With all that said the creek is still a fun beginner to intermediate level creek.

Trip Reports
Log in to add a reportRan on 5/21/22 at just under 600 CFS. Nice easy run with class II and some small maybe class III rapids. Great for beginner boaters. Probably wouldnt run below 600 as it got pretty shallow in some sections. No major obstructions.
derek runnin lower dees
steve runnin lower dees
derek runnin lower dees
lower dees
This is a very low level look at Upper Dees. A lot of the run was shallow this day. At levels above 4 feet this rapid is a fun ride with some good standing waves. This picture only shows the upper half of the rapid.
Another low level look at Lower Dees. You have to pick a line at this level as there are plently of rocks out of the water or barely submerged for you to hit. You can see the bottom of Upper Dees rapid in the background. This picture again shows the top 2/3 of this rapid.
Good level, Good Wave
