Trip Reports
Log in to add a reportCan anyone recommend water levels appropriate for being able to run this creek? Is there a gauge anywhere? Can I get gauge updates online or over the phone? Any river features (rapids) worth noting on this long run? Anyone have any photos from a trip down this run? Where do I put in to avoid this 'Cummins Falls' obstacle just downstream? It sounds like a really nice run for a change of pace this time of the year. Seriously though, has anyone ever really run this thing before or not?Any better details that anyone could share with me would be very greatly appreciated. Thanks a lot. RHD
In the past many people have been injured/or killed transcending these falls.
Do not be fooled by their appearance.
There IS a portage trail. Ferry over to river right well above the falls. Get out, locate the trail and start walking down until you get pretty close to the lip of the falls. Head up the hill, turn left and continue on. You will eventually come to a tree with ropes hanging down the bluff. Lower your boats and climb down. You can scramble up the bank on river right to the pool below the falls to catch one more rapid. Fun run...once. You'll have a much better time on Spring Creek if Blackburn is running.
Watch out for 85 ft. unrunnable Cummings Falls within 1st half-mile of the gorge. I have heard you must use ropes to repel down dry face of the falls and I have also heard of a portage/walking trail around. I have never run it, but know this falls will have to be dealt with.
