01. Rangely (CO) to Green River

Did this April 20, 2024. Flows around 700cfs. Put in at Bonanza Bridge and took out at Enron boat ramp. The solitude was amazing. Head over to fantasy canyon the day before your float. Really cool rock features. Camp at the put in as there is plenty of camping options there but less at the take-out. We had 9 people. 4 packrafts, 1 double ducky, and 1 10.5lb round boat. At our flows everything was easy to float. Lots of wild horses. Weather for us was ideal. Wish flows were higher but I heard even at higher flows the water doesn't really change in the way of exciting rapids, but I'd rather deal with lower flows than bugs and we had no bugs. Lots of paddling. First day about 20mi from Bananza Bridge put in. We got paddling around 11am and got to camp around 6:45pm. It was a push to get there before the sun set any lower. I recommend starting earlier than we did.  The camp spot was OK. For 9 people it was kind of hard to find good spots for everyone with all the fallen tree branches and bushes, but we made it work just fine. There is a fire ring there.

Camp spot is here-ish: https://maps.app.goo.gl/iqqnAojRbEGysPcg9

which makes it about a 20 to 22mi float and a 13mi float the next day. 110% do the Goblin City trail hike. We did it the next morning before breakfast. Didn't go all the way to the end but got to the ridge with the big rock formation. Really gorgious. Trail follows some cairns once you get closer to the ridge which is more challenging to follow. I'd say the hike is short and fun but challenging if you're not fit.

For day 2, the wave trains on day 2 are more exciting. We had beginner boaters and everyone did just fine. Some wood on the river to avoid but at our flows easily avoidable. Beautiful scenary the whole way in teh canyon with towering  Lots of bald eagles and turkeys and river otters and wild horses. River was a little smelly and dirty. Overall for a social easy casual float with no people this was really fun. Family Friendly. Relaxing. I had a good time but wished for more exciting water.
