Yellowstone
01. Swift Creek to Reservoir
Trip Reports
Log in to add a reportHiked 4 miles above the trailhead and floated back to the swift creek CG. I would not reccomend going past 3 miles from the TH as the first mile+ of water was braided to the point of being un-flotable with logs across the creek about every 100 yards. Just above the Swift creek CG there was another section of braids+river wide logs requiring a 0.4 mile portage. What was boatable was super fast and fun low water cl2-3 at 230CFS on the guage.
Has some box canyons to paddle through that are far above the trailhead. Lots of wood to watch out for up there.
Hiked up about a mile to the confluence with Swift Creek. Paddled to the reservoir and then below to the bridge at Yellowstone Campground. Surprisingly free of wood (unlike the Uinta). Fast class II-III. Would be better with a bit more water, say 500CFS. ~6 miles. This looks to go for another 8 miles to where it crosses rt 7. Nice packraft.
