Colliers Creek
Collierstown (Route 770) to Buffalo Creek (Route 251)
Trip Reports
Log in to add a reportThe Buffalo Creek gauge has changed recently. I would estimate this section is not running until the gauge at Murat reads over 4.0 feet. There is a concrete driveway that crosses the creek about halfway up from the fire station to the suggested put-in. If that driveway has water flowing over it you should be able to get down. If not flowing over, forget about it and go downstream for more water.
A good level is 3.5 to 4.0 on the Buffalo creek Murat gage for the upper section. A good put in is at the bridge that crosses over the creek at the Colliers Presbyterian, if the water is over the concrete footers on the bridge your good to go! Kurt
Ledges before low water bridge along 251
RT.770 bridge 3.1 low but good run
4/14/13 3.2 on the Murat gauage low water run
Below the put in at the fire house on Rt.251 4/14/13 3.2 on the Murat gauage
upper section at 3.0 on the Murat gage
The creek is good in the winter and early spring and the shuttle is quick. The road [251] runs beside the creek for easy take out anywhere.
We ran the lower part of Colliers Creek from Effinger Fire Department on down to the Murat bridge on Buffalo Creek on 2/2/13. There is now a gauge at the Murat Bridge on Buffalo that can be found on the Virginia i-flows website, but it was not reporting today. I would say that the current use of the Maury flow near Buena Vista is not a very good indicator of the level in Colliers Creek. It was very bumpy and took considerable effort to find a line that worked until Buffalo Creek merged in. Hope to run the upper part soon once we've gotten some more rain.
