River Description
This is a great small canoeing stream at the proper level. At higher levels, low water bridges clogged with strainer debris become problems. This river has some really big trees, some of which grow alongside the river and some of them which are creating huge tangles in the river itself.
The takeout is at Elizabeth Furnace, which is also the putin for the more adventurous whitewater section of this river most commonly paddled. Putins for the Upper Passage are located at bridges that cross the river at various points as the Passage wends its way up this very geologically interesting valley, which is entirely surrounded by Massanutten mountain.
