Not too sure about this. The upper 6.6 miles above the gate drops at 220 feet per mile. I've never seen a gradient that high that was less than class 5. The lower 10.5 miles drops at 65FPM.

Joe's comments on 4/16/07 are correct. I regularly raft this for my work and this section below the locked 4100 road bridge may have a class II but mostly I's all the way down. I believe the associated map is also incorrect; Herrington Place is down more at the mouth of Herrington Creek itself; you should be able to access this coming in from the North on DNR property but I have never tried.

On 4/14/07 I drove to the SF with the intention of running it. However, the access road (Weyerhauser rd #4100) is closed at the bridge about 9 miles up Road 4100. This bridge is basically mid-way through the run and according to Korb's write up in Bennett serves as the 'uppermost takeout'. So the access to the upper 6 miles of the run (where most of the whitewater is) is gated off. You can run from this bridge down, but it looked mostly flat with some class 2-, so we headed to the NF instead.
