River Description
hit this August 6th 2022. 4.5 ft approximately. From the put in to the camp ground is flat water and class 1. Once you get to the RD Bailey camp ground, it picks up a little. Directly after the 2nd camp ground is a fun class 3. We ran it right of center. It empties out into a good pool and there's a beach that gives access to take out and run it again. The next 2 rapids are probably class 2. Then you get into the lake. I've been told that once the lake is drained there is on going class 2 for the next bit. Waiting for fall to find out.
I'm from Man, WV. This river isn't as clean as the New or some of the prestigious rivers in our state, however this section seems a lot cleaner than down around Logan county.

Trip Reports
Log in to add a reportI know someone who worked a summer for the Department of Highways and they were flushing some culverts in the town of Helen. This town sits on Winding Gulf Creek. This creek dumps into the Guyandotte River. Anyway as they were flushing the culvert it was discovered that it was causing several house's toilets to spew water eveywhere. Apparently the majority of the about 50 or so houses had their sewage dumping diectly into the culvert which then went directly into the creek. This section of the Guyandotte mentioned above is about 25 miles below this creek so the potentcy of the sewage may dwindle by then by the time the water reaches this section. Just some information I thought I'd pass along.
Thinking about running this today,if I do I will post a more up to date report.
current on your Hep A/B shots?
Also, in Pineville, there are some great surf waves by the walking bridge near the grade school. 304-923-3403 is my number if you ever want to go boating there.
There is an alternative to this run on the Dotte. The put in is just above Pineville, go towards Mullens. The put in is just before New Richmond. You will see a swinging bridge that crosses the river. The put in is just beside that. You can email me at mikegwhomikeg@yahoo.com if you need more information. I lived approximately 18 years in this region.
If one has nothing positive to say....
