River Description

Karl Gesslein says: 'Taughannock is a beautiful little Class II-III creek in Trumansburg... It is a great run, but park rangers have asked me not to paddle it. It is a nice run in the Spring, especially after a big rain.'

Lat/longitude coords are approximate, from Google Maps.

You better be scoutin this run (if you choose to ignore the rangers' wishes--there's no guarantee here of legal access!), so's you don't get washed over no 80-foot falls, y'hear???

The run from Podunk Rd. to Rte. 96 is much more commonly paddled.

Nice continuation of the run below the 96 bridge.

We took out along the road just after the tributary that came in on the shallow shelf on the right and the creek pinched down on the left.

That way if somehow we missed this take out we still had a backup with the one where the creek turns right before the 80 ft falls.

Future kayaker contemplating the drop...

THIS is one of the reasons you want to get out above the Jacksonville Rd. bridge.
There is also an ugly 80-footer preceeding this.
