Hwy 181 bridge to Sinks Cavern (Sinks Canyon)

Reach banner

There are four sections of this river that are kayaked/packrafted regularly when flows are adequate, generally May and June for a couple of weeks. 1. The upper Class V section includes hiking up the Falls Trail from Bruce's Campground about 1.5 miles to put in below the falls. 2. Another Class IV-V- section (depending on flows and put in location) can be run from Bruce's Campground, or any of the other campgrounds along the river, to above the Sinks (be certain to take out above the final drop into the Sinks). 3. A lower Class IV-V- stretch (depending on flows and put in location) can be run from the bridge below the Rise of the Sinks (obey posted signage at put-in) to the pink water tank fishing access point approximately 3 miles downstream. Note: Land along the banks of this stretch downstream of the State Park is private without public access, so portaging or scouting along the banks is problematic. Also, at higher flows clearance under low-hanging bridges can be limited. 4. A Class II-III stretch can be boated from City Park in Lander to the WYPO Bridge fishing access point approximately 5 miles downstream. Land along this 'town run' is also private. The town run has some good play boating, but it is shallow and some other hazards warrant caution despite grade.
