I floated Riley this weekend (7/9/16) from below Windy Pass. I believe the same sweeper reported previously was still in place. But there is a much worse one upstream that only an overnighter would confront. You come around a blind curve and there is a downed tree on river left that blocks the left channel. It looks like you want to go right, but a tree is growing into the channel on the right. It is quick, no eddies, and blind. Serious shit! There are at least 3-4 full length sweepers/strainers along the float. Most can be more easily avoided. Submitted by Chris

The main channel of Riley Creek has routed through a hazardous section of spruce strainers starting at 63.667980°, -148.909030°. Once you enter the channel it is very difficult to stop in time due to high brush along the creek banks. comment provided by Monica Morin
