River Description

Running through Woodford Co. near Frankfort, Glenns Creek is a playboater’s wonderland at good water levels. Several perfectly formed class III surf hydraulics are intersperced among numerous class II drops. Strainers are often a randomly occuring problem and boaters should be alert for a possible portage around farm fences. Paddler’s generally look to Glenn’s first after a soaking rain and when the Elkhorn is too high.

Put In

Distance: 0 mi

Drainage at the listed put-in is just over 20 square miles. The gauge on Elkhorn Creek lists drainage of 473 square miles, but then says 'Contributing drainage area 402.4  square miles'. Using that latter value, expect flows in this creek to average something close to 1/20th the flow on the listed gauge.

Smaller watersheds will react faster and will drain faster, so expect approximation from the gauge to lag reality (on both rise and fall), as well as going awry when rains are more localized (either in this watershed or the Elkhorn Creek watershed).

There is a gauge nailed to a tree on the bank at the Baptist Church takeout.

We ran this bad-boy on Wednesday March 4th. It was a fun river but you pretty much have to hit everything on the fly. But there was some sweet surfing, just need to be careful of downed wood since this river only really runs when everything else is at flood stage. We put in at the bridge just off the road past the Woodford Reserve Distillery and then took out at the parking lot across the street from the church in the city of Millville. The put-in felt a little sketchy because there is not really any public access areas, but once you get on it is a lot of fun!

Penny on the Viking Canoe Club had this to say 'Glens has trees down. FYI: Tree river wide on first bridge, barely enough room on left for a boat. Same old tree down early in run.'
