B) Horlick Dam to Quarry Park (0.2 - 0.6 mile)
Believe it or not, this is the 'ledge' which forms "All Evil" on the Root! The bedrock (barely visible diagonally right from center frame) drops off into about a 3' deep pool. The sloping bedrock upstream accelerates the water so that when it hits the pool (left side of photo) it stacks up a wave. And that's all it takes (with 1500 cfs or better) to create one of Wisconsin's best freestyle holes. For those desperate for some 'boat time', this spot can give very tame surfs and spins even at 150 cfs (about the flow shown in this photo)!
