Trip Reports
Log in to add a reportWe drove up from Conway yesterday. Our first time in the area. We intended to float from HWY 16 to HWY 59 but there was no place to leave a vehicle. I guess you could have someone drop you off....
There is no access to the river at this bridge.
We ended up floating from Siloam Springs Kayak park down to HWY 59 bridge. $10.00 parking fee at the 59. the Kayak park was free to enter and park. Very nice facility. Beware of gett towed. Only park where you're supposed to or you'll regret it.
The float was awesome. We went over the drops at the park. Rolled over on drop 2. No big deal. Once we consolidated and reorganized, we continued down the river. Water was clear and cool. Never had to get out to drag the kayak but rubbed the bottom a few times. Overall it was a great float. Be careful of all of the river sitters at the 59 bridge.
We floated from Chambers Springs Public Access to Arkansas Highway 59 a couple of weeks ago. Took about 5 hours. Probably about 9 or 10 miles. Long, slow pools connected by riffles. Chambers Springs is easy access on a dirt road about a 1/2 mile off Highway 412 behind a permanent fireworks business. Lots of parking on a dirt lot. Easy unload/access to river. Only ran into one slight obstacle - a tree down - but was relatively easy to cross over.
There are 3 drops at the Siloam Springs Kayak Park in the space of about 100 yards, along with a swimming pool area. Lot's of people playing in the water and in tubes. The drops were interesting. Wish they had a way to get kayaks back up without having to drag them :) Lot's of paved parking, port-a-potties, concrete walkways, and even a small climbing wall. www.siloamspringskayakpark.com
Arkansas 59 Canoeing & Rafting charges $5 per vehicle to use their access/take-out point.
Does anyone know the name of outfitter at the Hwy 59 Bridge in Arkansas?
it's 'Arkansas 59 Canoeing and Rafting'
The land owner that used to be a problem has moved. Look for a white water play park in the coming years.
