Technically (as listed on this sign), it is not legal to be on or in the water within 200 feet of the dam. Oddly, the ramp to launch and retrieve motor boats upstream of the dam (and for canoes and kayaks to beach and portage the dam) is only 150-175' from the lip of the dam, and (downstream, for paddlers portaging the dam) the signage for return to the river is within 100' from the base of the dam!
